TERMITES: A DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT INSECT

Termites are the only insects that can eat wood (cellulose) for food. The microbes that break down cellulose so that it can be used as a nutrient are passed down, generation to generation, by the queen in each of the colonies. The colonies are complex, with a caste system designed to include specific functional members.
